The part-time employee at the Tourist Bureau is a LTPA certified travel counselor; certification is renewed on an annual basis.

DeSoto Parish is part of a group of neighboring parishes known as - Five Parishes West. This group of parishes includes: Allen, Beauregard, Vernon and DeSoto and Natchitoches Parishes. The purpose of this organization is to promote the history and role of these areas during the neutral strip era during the time of the Louisiana Purchase.

The parish is also scheduled to receive a grant for a DOTD project highlighting the historical by-way.
This by-way has been named - The Myths and Legends By-Way.  The by-way will run from Allen Parish through
Beauregard Parish, west to the Texas border, and then from Beauregard Parish, the by-way will head north through
Vernon and Sabine Parishes and end in DeSoto Parish.

The by-way will have kiosks and literature promoting DeSoto Parish and its role in the history of Louisiana.
